Ladies and Gentlemen
This day marks a major milestone in the history of Zambian football in that for once our game in Zambia will go international through this sponsorship imitative with SuperSport.
We believe that the sponsorship of live television programmes by SuperSport is the beginning of the realisation of our dream to maximise our full potential as unique brand of football in Africa.
As a new Executive Committee we will strive to maintain the highest levels of professionalism in the administration of our game and will uphold good corporate governance principles and best practices at al times. It’s with this in mind that we hope to position FAZ as an equal business partner with the corporates out there.
It is the intention of the new Executive Committee to model FAZ on the world stage in keeping up with the best leagues and Associations in the world. In doing so we will attract the much needed sponsorship and funding to run football more professionally.
The coming in of SuperSport as a sponsor of football in Zambia throws a challenge to us as FAZ and the Super Leagues Clubs as well. The fact that Zambian football will be shown in 46 countries in Africa entails that the levels of our game need to improve both on the field of play and in administration.
This is not a simple task because in order to package the game properly for television our infrastructure and playing fields need to improve drastically especially in the coming season.
As FAZ will be more stricter with Super League Clubs to ensure that they maintain a high level of professionalism and ensure that their stadia meet the minimum basic requirements for live broadcast of matches.
Zambian football is a product of an international standard that has been set over the years. The challenge is therefore before our players in the local league to showcase their skills and market their potential.
I will end by thanking our other sponsors such as Government, Konkola Copper Mines PLC and Nike International for seeing the value of investing in the Football Association of Zambia. We are in the process of concluding an further Memorandum of Understanding with KCM for the sponsorship of our two national coaches upkeep while in Zambia.
Within the nest few weeks we will be making other major announcements regarding other possible sponsors and partners that have indicated willingness to join FAZ in this soccer resolution. In this regard we have a mobile telephone network provider, a vehicle sponsor, a bank and IT supplier as potential sponsors.
We hope that many more will join because in football there is always room for more business and opportunities. We will prove to the sponsors the power of Zambian football in achieving a true return on their investment.
To SuperSport we say thank you for seeing our potential and we look forward to strong partnership which should grow from strength to strength. You are indeed the leading broadcaster on the African continent.
Your success is our success. Zambia’s success is success for all.
On our part, we will remain firmly with EYES ON THE BALL.
I thank you.
